Museum Tells Story Of Titanic Survivor Molly Brown



If you've ever wanted to move to Colorado, the time is perfect to start experiencing Denver. Shortly after moving to Leadville, Margaret met James J. (J.J.) Brown at a church picnic. From top to bottom — or rather, from its rock-walled, 1880s basement to the tip of its carriage house's cedar-shingle roof — the Molly Brown House Museum has never looked better.

The docent who guided us throughout the Molly Brown House Museum was knowledgeable and shared lots of fun yet random details of Margaret's life and the history (and conservation of her home). Socialite, philanthropist and activist, she even became the subject of a 1960s Broadway show, The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

The Molly Brown House Museum (also known as House of Lions) is a house located at 1340 Pennsylvania Street in Denver, Colorado , United States that was the home of American philanthropist, socialite, and activist Margaret Brown Brown was known as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" because she survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic The museum now located in her former home presents exhibits interpreting her life and that of Victorian Denver as well as architectural preservation.

Not only is there a complete tour of the house and an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Molly Brown, (no pun intended, but it is a walking tour through the house, and there are stairs), but they even have an event room that you can rent out. For history 85 years the Titanic, too, has been memorialized in many ways, perhaps none so opulent as the latest motion picture, in which Kathy Bates portrays Molly Brown.

Molly Brown also appears in James Cameron's "Titanic," portrayed by Kathy Bates. The group restored the house to how it looked when the Browns lived in it and organized 45-minute tours during which visitors could see the original furnishings and memorabilia.

Molly (Margaret) Brown was a famous survivor of Titanic; she was a socialite and philanthropist and was a first class passenger on the Titanic. In 1891, Brown purchased stock in a mining company that soon struck gold and he suddenly became very rich. In the nineteen sixty-four movie "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" she was played by Debbie Reynolds.
